The Hudson-Athens Preservation Society is a non-profit organization run by dedicated volunteers, who are the "lightkeepers". Built in 1874, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is among the very few remaining lighthouses right in the middle of the Hudson River. It takes a lot of labor of love and finances to maintain such a beautiful, architectural and historical marvel.
We have public Saturday tours scheduled in the summer or you can schedule a private tour for you and your family, should you want to check the lighthouse for your event. Send us a message for more information and scheduling.
Lighthouse description
The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is a Second Empire architectural style lighthouse located in the Hudson River between Hudson and Athens, New York.
We'll transport you in time to 1874 as we ferry you to the lighthouse and imagine how the lighthouse keepers and their families lived in the lighthouse.
The lighthouse has an open deck outside that can accommodate 2 picnic tables and chairs with 360 views of the water and amazing sunset views. Inside, there is a connecting living room and kitchen area that can also provide more seating and a buffet table. Simple picnic lunches are also an option. The second floor has 2 rooms and 1 gift shop room. And at the very top of the lighthouse is the beacon, where people can climb up, a few at a time, to get a better 360 view of the Hudson River.
As you eat out on the deck, you may be able to see sailboats and ships passing by.
Boat transportation can leave from either the town of Athens or the town of Hudson.
The town of Athens is a very nice quaint town with interesting shops and restaurants.
The town of Hudson is a much bigger town that has a good selection of hotels, shops and restaurants. It's been featured in numerous travel magazine as one of the 10 best places to visit in the US.

Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is one of the very few lighthouses in the middle of the Hudson River. I am just one of the many volunteer lightkeepers that want to preserve our beloved lighthouse and its history for many generations to come.
