Charity Island Light is a lighthouse on Big Charity Island located 10 miles out in the middle of Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron just off the coast of Au Gres, Michigan. Here you experience the quiet peace of island living and the mystique of staying at the Charity Island Lightkeepers Home located next to the lighthouse that was built in 1857.
The island was named by the lake mariners for its location, placed in the middle of a dangerous bay "through the charity of God" as a refuge for mariners needing refuge from storms and winds of Lake Huron.
The lightkeepers house sleeps up to 6 people. Guests can choose to stay in one of the five comfortable bedrooms. Each bedroom is named after a lightkeeper that served on Charity Island. The master bedroom on the first floor has a queen size bed and a full bath. Near the bedroom there is a spacious living room that has lots of large windows that provide unique panoramic views of the Lake Huron.
On the second floor there are another four bedrooms, each with trundle beds and the second full bath.
The galley style kitchen comes complete with modern appliances including a microwave, gas range and full size gas powered refrigerator.

It was a very good cruise. The afternoon was very enjoyable and the history of the Island was very interesting. It appears that your research on all the construction was very good. I do wonder why “wind” Power was not considered for part of the power. I am aware there would be a few negatives since the Island is used only part of the year. Again, had a great time and we will be back another time.

How can we ever thank you enough for your wonderful hospitality while we visited Charity Island. It was a very memorable trip for everyone. The food was delicious and the boat ride to and from the Island was very relaxing and enjoyable. It’s great to have a place to visit that allows you to do that.
