Lighthouse summary
Charity Island Light is a lighthouse on Big Charity Island located 10 miles out in the middle of Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron just off the coast of Au Gres, Michigan. Here you experience the quiet peace of island living and the mystique of staying at the Charity Island Lightkeepers Home located next to the lighthouse that was built in 1857.
The island was named by the lake mariners for its location, placed in the middle of a dangerous bay "through the charity of God" as a refuge for mariners needing refuge from storms and winds of Lake Huron.
