Lighthouse summary
Solebay Cottage is one of two cottages at Lighthouse on the North Cornwall Coast. The area is made up of dramatic granite headland and is a Site of Special Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This magnificent natural beauty makes it a perfect destination for a relaxing holiday in the Cornish countryside.
Lighthouse was built in 1900 and lies six miles north of Land’s End and two miles from St. Just. The well-trodden South West Coast path passed around the headland of the lighthouse and the area has some of Cornwall’s oldest mining areas. As with all parts of North Cornwall, the beaches are some of the best in the UK, and you often have them all to yourself.
Lighthouse description
The cottages have stunning panoramic views and a large variety of wildlife to look at right on the doorstep. On the rocks below the lighthouse headland, there are many seabirds to be spotted and many lucky guests have seen seals lounging besides the ocean. It makes a great spot for watching the sun go down after a relaxing day walking along the headland, relaxing at the cottage, or if you are brave enough to bare the cold water, swimming in the ocean.
The cottage has two bedrooms and one bathroom, sleeping a maximum of four guests. There is a minimum of a two-night stay. It is fully equipped with a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, gas hob and electric oven, TV and DVD player, a payphone and an electric effect wood burner. Travel cots and highchairs for children are also available and garden furniture is provided.
At the rear of the property, there is a large walled patio. Onsite parking is available as is additional visitor parking in the public car park that is offsite and about 100 yards from the lighthouse cottages.
Whilst visiting the cottage, guests can enjoy a visit to the world famous Lands’ End, which is six miles away. Two sandy beaches, at Whitesand Bay and Gwynver, are very close by as is the historic St. Michael’s Mount and the Tate. St. Ives art gallery. There are many restaurants, shops, cafes, and a huge abundance of tearooms all within close distance of the cottage.
The lighthouse is operational and has an automatic electronic fog signal to warn boats. Earplugs are provided for the comfort of guests, to use, as occasionally there are periods of fog.
