Lighthouse summary

Penda cottage is one of three cottages at St. Catherine’s Lighthouse, just outside the hamlet of Niton on the Isle of Wight. This cottage is perfect for a relaxing rural holiday on the Island and offers visitors wonderful views and some lovely beaches.

The cottage is a ten minutes’ drive from the coastal resort of Ventnor and nearby beaches include Ventnor beach, Freshwater Bay, Sandown beach, and Shanklin beach. The cottage is amongst three former lighthouse keepers cottages set in the grounds of the lighthouse; the other two cottages are Gurnard cottage and Landward cottage. Ten minutes up the hill is an excellent real ale pub that also serves food.

Lighthouse description

Penda Cottage is made up of three bedrooms and one bathroom, with a minimum stay of two nights. The cottage is fully equipped with a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV, DVD player, electric hob and oven, electric effect wood burner, and a payphone. Travel cots and high chairs for children are also available.

Guests can bring up to two well-behaved dogs to the cottage. There is a fully enclosed private courtyard that has an open grassed area that is shared with the other cottages and onsite parking. The lighthouse is open for guided tours throughout the year and whilst it is an active automated lighthouse, there is no fog signal.

Guests can also explore nearby Carisbrooke Castle, Brading Roman Villa, or Arreton Old Village. Rosemary Vineyard is close by and guests can visit the grounds and go on wine tours. The Isle of Wight Military History Museum, Sandown Pier, and Robin Hill Park and Gardens are all accessible from the cottage and help to make this spot a fantastic holiday location.
