Lighthouse description

The cottage is a ten minutes’ drive from the coastal resort of Ventnor and nearby beaches include Ventnor beach, Freshwater Bay, Sandown beach, and Shanklin beach. The cottage is amongst three former lighthouse keepers cottages set in the grounds of the lighthouse; the other two cottages are Gurnard cottage and Penda cottage. Landward Cottage is made up of two bedrooms and one shower room, with a minimum stay of two nights. There is a fully enclosed private courtyard that has an open grassed area that is shared with the other cottages and onsite parking. The lighthouse is open for guided tours throughout the year and whilst it is an active automated lighthouse, there is no fog signal.

The cottage is fully equipped with a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV, DVD player, electric hob and oven, Electric effect wood burner, and a payphone. Travel cots and high chairs for children are also available.

Guests can also explore nearby Carisbrooke Castle, Brading Roman Villa, or Arreton Old Village. Rosemary Vineyard is close by and guests can visit the grounds and go on wine tours. The Isle of Wight Military History Museum, Sandown Pier, and Robin Hill Park and Gardens are all accessible from the cottage and help to make this spot a fantastic holiday location.

    Exceeded expectations

The cottage and setting exceeded all expectations and was simply gorgeous. The welcome hamper was a delight (the whole cottage smelled of the lovely fresh bread that had been left for us). The housekeeping standards were excellent and it was spotlessly clean. We also arrived very late and the housekeeper had been into the house and turned all the lights and heating on so it was lovely and cosy when we walked in. I would most certainly use Rural Retreats again and have already recommended them to friends.
