Lighthouse summary

Pelorus Cottage is one of four cottages located at Trevose Head Lighthouse. The cottages and lighthouse are on a headland between the sandy beaches of Constantine Bays and Harlyn, about four miles west of Padstow. They have fantastic sea views and are a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a seaside Cornish holiday.

Trevose Head Lighthouse was built in 1847 and the last lighthouse keeper left in 1995, when it was automated. The lighthouse is not open to the public. The cottage is accessed via a private road and it is one mile from the main road. With the other three cottages, Pelorus Cottage shares a communal forecourt with tarmac parking. Visitors to Pelorus Cottage can use one of these car parking spaces and there is additional public parking 100 yards from the cottage.

On the sea side of the property there is a shared walled grass area that is fenced off at the cliff edge, although it is recommended that guests do not use this for safety reasons. The headland is part of the South West Coast path and leads towards Padstow. Visitors can embark on walks along this path in both directions from the cottage and take in some of the magnificent scenery and countryside.

Lighthouse description

The cottage is made up of two bedrooms and one bathroom, sleeping a maximum of four guests. The minimum stay is two nights and visitors are allowed to bring up to two well-behaved dogs to the cottage.

The cottage is fully equipped with a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV, DVD player, and a payphone. Travel cots and high chairs for children are also available and they are shared between the four cottages. There is also garden furniture for guests to use.

Nearby the cottage is the beautiful fishing village of Padstow, which is home to Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant that always needs to be booked in advance. There are many other restaurants, cafes, tearooms, and pubs in the village to choose from. Harlyn Bay on the way to Padstow has a good surfing and sheltered family beach with yellow sand and rock pools. During the summer months, there is a lifeguard on duty for safer swimming. The Eden Project is also nearby and only a 30 minute drive from the cottage.
