Beacon Cottage

Beacon Cottage, perched on the cliffs edge, is one of two cottages based at Lighthouse in North-Cornwall and offers some breath-taking panoramic views of the ocean. The beautiful surrounding countryside and wildlife offer guests the opportunity for some fantastic walks and a very relaxing break.  Lighthouse is located above Start Bay, between Dartmouth and Salcombe. It was built in 1863 and has been automatic since 1993. The lighthouse is 4 miles along country lanes, from the main road. The last part of the road leading to the lighthouse is a half mile, private, walled piece of tarmac that runs along the headland. This drive is part of the South West Coast Path and so is shared with walkers.  The South West Coast Path runs in both directions from the cottage and so guests can use the pathway to enjoy some parts of the path and take in some breath taking cliff top meanders. Within easy reach of the cottage is Dartmoor National Park and sea kayaking at Dartmouth. Visitors can explore the English Heritage site of Dartmouth Castle, which is also close by. Nearby, East Portlemouth, Slapton, and Blackpool Sands, all offer guests some superb sandy beaches for beach walks, swims, and relaxing beach days. All are within 20 minutes' drive from the cottage. Stoke Beach is also nearby and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottage is made up of three bedrooms and one bathroom, sleeping a maximum of six guests. The minimum stay is for two nights. A decked patio provides stunning views overlooking the cliffs and the ocean. Parking is available for two vehicles, and whilst small babies are welcome, for safety reasons, children under the age of 11 years old are not allowed. The cottage is fully equipped with a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, TV, DVD player, electric hob and double oven, electric wood burner, and a payphone. Travel cots and high chairs for children are also available but there is no stairgate provided. The lighthouse, being operational, has an automatic electronic fog signal. When there is occasional fog, guests can use the ear plugs provided for their comfort. Guests should be aware that there will be walkers along the coastal path that passed the cottage and that from Easter to October visitors are allowed to visit the lighthouse.
