Lighthouse summary

The is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lighthouses on Scotlands West Coast. And even though it doesnt have a fog horn anymore, it is still working properly and is operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board.

As of the moment, the lighthouses original keepers cottage has been turned into a lodge that offers self-catering accommodation. It has five en suite bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen with a working Aga, a utility room with Miele appliances and an American Fridge Freezer as well as a private walled garden and access to the beach, making it the perfect holiday destination for families or a group of friends.

And since it is located right at the gateway to the majestic Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it has amazing views of the sparkling waters of the Loch Linnhe, the majestic mountains of Glencoe, and the world-renowned Ben Nevis.

Lighthouse description

The was built in 1860 by Thomas and David Stevenson the father and uncle of Robert Louis Stevenson, the famous novelist and poet. It is situated on the shores of a tidal sea loch and is only a few meters away from the water.

The lodge, which is basically on what used to be the keepers cottage, provides cozy and luxurious accommodation. It has a spacious living room with a wood-burning stove and three comfortable sofas; a kitchen with a large range of appliances such as a four-ring oil Aga, an electric cooker and an oven; a charming dining room and a pleasant little reading room with views to the lighthouse; a utility room that houses a refrigerator, a washing machine, and a tumble dryer; and a play area for children that has bean bags, a television set, and a DVD player.

In addition to those, there are also five bedrooms that can sleep ten people in the said lodge: two downstairs and three upstairs. All of them have en-suite bathrooms and hot and cold showers and one even having a bath tub. Also, they all have twin beds that can be arranged to become a bigger bed, except for one bedroom on the ground floor which has a double-sized bed.

Last but not the least, the Lodge also has its own private garden with an elevated deck, summer patio furniture, a barbeque, and a grassy area for outdoor games.

About the area

The Lodge is located on which is at the center of Lochaber – an area which includes Fort William, Glencoe, Spean Bridge, Invergarry, Glenfinnan, Mallaig and the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It is also quite close to Oban, the Isle of Mull and Fort Augustus, which is situated at the bottom end of Loch Ness.

Because of this, the lighthouse is surrounded by mountains, lochs, and seas. And so, there are numerous spots in the area perfect for hiking, biking, pony trekking, cruising, and golfing. A prefect week in Scotland

We stayed at the corran lighthouse for one week with 7 persons. Two grandparents, two adults and 3 childern/cousins. On arriving we had a wonderful first view of the house during the short ferry crossing. As we arrived at the house it simply was amazing!! All the spacious comfortable bedrooms have a modern ensuite bathroom. The living area, kitchen and diningroom are comfortable, well equipped, clean and cozy. This lovely house is situated in one of the nicest areas of Scotland. We made day trips to Glasgow, Loch Ness, Isle of Mull and the Highland Games of Killin. The local shop was small but offert everything we needed and the shopkeeper was very friendly. So was the Inn in Ardgour near the ferry where we eat twice for dinner. Perfect food! The owner of the house offert us a hamper, full of nice and usefull things. Also very exciting were the seals passing by every day. So we had a wonderful week in Ardgour and we surely can recommend this house. When we come back to Scotland we will come back to the Corran Lighthouse.

    Corran Lighthouse

My family and I stayed at Corran Lighthouse and thoroughly enjoyed our all too short stay. The facilities were excellent and there was nothing that we needed that was not available. Thank you to Cathy for a lovely clean house and for being available for our needs and wants. I would recommend this accommodation very highly.

    Wonderful setting and great accommodation!

We thought we'd try something a bit different for our annual get-together of 10 friends; well we made the right choice! The lighthouse is stunning as is the welcome hamper: quality with quantity. Cathie deserves a special mention for her attention to detail and friendliness. The bedrooms are all generous in size and have en suite facilities, the kitchens, yes there are two, are well equipped with fridges, utensils, crockery etc; everyone enjoyed the one with the Aga (it was cold and rainy outside and the cosy kitchen was extremely welcoming). The dining room is directly off this kitchen and is very convenient. The lounge is generous and airy and we enjoyed sitting there chatting and socialising. As a location it is ideal for walking or fishing. The location mandates that you should take sufficient food and drink supplies with you, although there is a local store and Fort William is not too far away, but it's either an £8 ferry ride (one way) or 35 miles of single track road to get there! We had no criticisms. We all loved it and would certainly stay again.
