Best View Room in West Usk Lighthouse
Although this is the smallest room in our lighthouse, it has the best view without a single doubt.
- Wonderful lighthouse in West Usk
- Astonishing view over the sea
- Brilliant cooked breakfast
- Very romantic room
- The Land View Room has an en-suite bathroom with shower
This room has arguably the best views in the lighthouse looking over the sea. It is the smallest room however, with a double four-poster bed raised up on a plinth so that you can watch the tide come in and out while laying in bed.
There is a 17” TV that you can also watch in bed if you like with access to roughly 100 DVDs for your entertainment. Then again, who needs movies if you have about the best view in the world?
Now something more about this lighthouse. Not only the rather odd dimensions (we're pretty sure you have not seen such a low and wide lighthouse before) but also the special features are very well appreciated by our guests. Just to give you an example: on the bottom of the stairs you will find our resident Dalek (we'll tell you more about this on arrival) and you will also find a TARDIS. An added bonus for Doctor Who for sure!
Complementary therapies and treatments
Apart from a great night rest and wonderful sea views, we are proud to offer a wide range of different therapies and treatments. From a full body massage and facials to hypotherapy and life coaching. Sounds good? Then don't forget to mention you want a treatment while booking your room.
About this lighthouse
We are the proud lighthouse keepers and love to share this wonderful place with you during a stay in our B&B or with a wedding. We are situated near the city of Newport, Gwent, at the junction of the Severn and the Usk estuaries, overlooking the Bristol Channel. The lighthouse was designed by the Scottish architect James Walker. The result is unique because of the rather odd dimensions: the building is actually shorter in height and larger in circumference.
The interior is rather quirky than luxurious and the wedge shaped rooms all have their own character. There is a stone spiral stairs right in the centre of the lighthouse, going all the way from the wine cellar (the original rain collecting well) up to top of this wonderful building.
For the Doctor Who fans out there: know that have our own Dalek on the bottom of the stairs - with a great story attached to it - and TARDIS on the roof.
Furthermore we have a very convenient bathtub in our roof garden - simply the best place to enjoy the sun set with a glass of champagne in your hand.
Look forward to welcome you aboard soon!

At mini roundabout take first exit - drive for 2 miles

It is a grade 2 listed building. A very unique lighthouse in Newport Gwent. Frank is an amazing host, nothing is much trouble for him. We also do small intimate weddings. Glorious experience.

Amazing stay in an awesome lighthouse
Tucked away in a private (and very bumpy) Road West Usk lighthouse sises above the trees as you approach. From the outside, the part with beautifully arranged flower beds flanking the gravel path to the door.
The bell and the welcome of our hosts (the charming Frank and the impetuous Archie) is warm and disarmed. A word of warning, if you are not a dog lover West Usk may not be for you. Frank may own lighthouse, but it belongs to Archie and he loves tickling belly! The interior of the lighthouse has a few interesting pieces of memorabilia concerning the history of buildings that contributes to the overall atmosphere as well as some other quirky pieces that give a nod to other local 'interests', you really can not miss the fun addition of a time capsule on the roof for example.
The lighthouse is an old building (198 years in fact) and is decorated in the style of its heritage, the attraction and charm of here is that this is not a tight, polished and anonymous hotel chain. Everything is clean and well maintained, but there are quirks about staying in a place like this that really add something to the experience and its quirky it in an old building on the edge of a river mouth.
Our room was large and spacious, with plenty of storage space for our belongings. There is free wifi (which could be a bit frustrating because of the thick stone inside walls), a very complicated power shower (which is nice), the TV has a built-in DVD player with a selection of DVDs to choose on the landing if you wish to watch a movie. There is also a fridge on the landing that you can use to keep track of everything cool if needed. Oh, and cookies are in the lighthouse shaped biscuit cylinder to go with your tea / coffee.
The bed was very comfortable and I slept well every night of our stay. Although it is at a remote spot by a tidal river, the local fauna can be a bit vocal at night.
On the roof there is a hot tub and facilities for a bbq, a bar (BYOB) and beautiful views of the Severn Estuary. A beautiful space. If the weather is not good you can still enjoy the view and keep the stairs dry to the old lamp room.
Breakfast the next morning is a hearty affair and an opportunity to meet your fellow guests. The 'full Frank' is an epic and delicious offer. Again, no anonymous, bland hotel chain kind offers here. This is a premium breakfast that is guaranteed to prepare you for the day.
Frank and Archie are 24 and center of life in West Usk. Must know how to get to the nearest pub? Archie can show you the way (seriously) as it is only a shortish walk. Need a recommendation for a meal in the area? Frank is very knowledgeable and on hand for good advice. He also has many good ideas for attractions and things to do, regardless of weather conditions. Regardless of our query, everything we needed, Frank was happy to help and very accommodating.
Would I be back in West Usk again? Absolutely. Not only because of the novelty of staying in a lighthouse, but the whole experience and atmosphere that is provided by Frank and Danielle (not to mention Archie), made it a wonderful and unforgettable stay.

Me and my partner stayed in the cabin room and it was absolutely amazing. We loved every minute of the stay. Jullian was so lovely and so accommodating. There is a local pub where you can go for food and he drove us there and picked us up which was so thoughtful. We lay in bed looking out to sea which was beautiful and the breakfast by Jullian was also superb! And not forgetting Archie the lighthouse dog! I would 100% recommended staying here and have had multiple people message me asking where it is from the photos I posted online. It was very romantic.

Superb lighthouse for our wedding
We chose the lighthouse for our wedding and it was the most wonderful experience. Frank and Danielle were magnificent! From the moment we booked the venue until our wedding day, everything was well organized and our hosts could not have done anything more to make this day so very special. We had booked all the rooms for the night before the big day, They are beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty made from fresh, local produce. The room, where the ceremony took place, was beautifully decorated. We all loved the place! Thank you so much to Frank and Danielle. We will never forget our wedding at the lighthouse.
