Lighthouse summary

Big Bay Point Lighthouse stands on a rocky point halfway between Marquette and Keweenaw Portage Entry. The establishment of a lighthouse at Big Bay Point was recommended by the Lighthouse Board in 1892, as coasting steamers had to change course at the point and there was protected anchorage on either side of the point.

Big Bay Point Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast is one of the last resident lighthouses in the United States. Relax by the fire in the living room, go hiking, biking, or skiing along the coast, or take on the many trails in the area. But most of all, enjoy the quietness and virginal beauty of nature around the Big Bay lighthouse.

Lighthouse description

Big Bay Lighthouse consists of seven guest rooms in the working lighthouse. All rooms have private bathrooms and most of them have beautiful views of Lake Superior.

The largest rooms are Keeper Dufrain and Keeper McDonald. Both rooms have a queen size bed and a gas fire place. Keeper McDonald has windows on three sides and Keeper Dufrain has a vaulted ceiling which gives the room a spacious feel. Both bathrooms have a shower.

Keeper Bergan is placed on the first floor. It has a queen size bed and a gas Franklin stove. The bathroom has a one person Thermo-massage tub and shower.

Assistant Beamer and Assistant Temple have a sunrise view of Lake Superior and a queen size bed. Assistant Temple also has a day bed. Its bathroom has a shower and a tub and is two steps across the hall. Because of this, you will be given bathrobes. Assistant Beamer's bathroom has a shower.

Helper Fleury and Helper Brown have a view of the woods and a queen size bed each. The bathroom in Helper Fleury has a tub and shower while Helper Brown has a shower.

In addition to the guest rooms, guests can find relaxation in the Serenity Massage Hut, which is located in a secluded wooded area 30 feet above Lake Superior. The hut is at the end of a trail that is accessable only to massage hut guests.
